Summary
GE Vernova Advanced Research is looking for a Chemical Process Engineer with capabilities in chemistry and chemical processing. As a Specialist, you will be support research and development of chemical processes for a broad range of projects. You will be responsible for the design, set up and operation of mechanical systems for chemical processing, with duties ranging from formulation of functional material compositions, scale-up, material characterization, and system integration and testing. This role will have exciting opportunities to help define and develop sustainable solutions to the biggest challenges in the ongoing Energy Transition and sustainability fuels, which is the core of GE Vernova business.
GE Vernova's Advanced Research Center is the central innovation engine for GE Vernova's portfolio of energy businesses. The research organization is made up of 300+ researchers representing virtually every major scientific and engineering discipline. Collectively, they are driving major research programs and initiatives to decarbonize power, accelerate renewables, and promote electrification and the creation of a 21st century grid fit to power a zero-carbon energy future.
Roles and Responsibilities You will:
- Assist in the development of new chemical processes
- Work with researchers to develop methods and build equipment that can perform various tasks relevant to chemical processes in GE Vernova projects
- Perform basis characterization of chemical materials.
- Identify key technical issues, develop new processes and iteratively improve system performance through experimentation and process optimization with assistance from scientists and engineers
- Independently operate various pieces of laboratory equipment, investigate novel material components and integrated material systems, and utilize basic analytical methods.
- Be responsible for the safe and compliant use/operation and disposal of hazardous chemicals and materials
- Build relationships with colleagues at GE Vernova Advanced Research with a wide variety of technical expertise and business responsibilities.
- Provide experimental data for IP disclosures and patent application processes.
- Be a member of a multidisciplinary team developing functional material systems
Required Qualifications - Master's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, materials science or related discipline, or Bachelor's degree with 2-3 years' of hands-on industrial experience in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, or Associate's Degree with 10+ years' experience in same.
- Familiarity with Chemical processing and testing methods
- Ability to build and troubleshoot chemical process equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new areas of research
- Ability to work with diverse, high-paced teams
- Willing to work government-funded projects

- Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

Desired Characteristics
- Background in chemistry, chemical processing, process engineering, as well as hands-on experience in materials testing and characterization.

The salary range for this position is $71,600 - $107,400 USD, annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. This position is also eligible for a performance bonus. This position will remain posted until at least August 25th, 2025.
