Job Description 1: Cardiothoracic Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Manhattan, NY

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

Setting: Outpatient, Major NYC Health System

Position Overview

A major New York City health system is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join its elite outpatient cardiothoracic practice in Manhattan. The RN will work directly with one of the top cardiothoracic surgeons in the region, supporting patients through pre-operative and post-operative care and ensuring a smooth, safe surgical journey.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments, including vitals, medication review, and patient education.
• Perform post-operative clinical evaluations, monitor symptoms, review lab results, and support recovery plans.
• Coordinate care between the surgeon, multidisciplinary teams, and outside providers.
• Assist with triage, phone follow-up, and care coordination for surgical patients.
• Prepare and maintain exam rooms and ensure adherence to all clinical protocols.
• Document patient encounters accurately in the EMR and follow strict HIPAA guidelines.
• Serve as a clinical resource for patients and families, reinforcing care instructions and surgical expectations.

Qualifications

Required:

• Active NYS RN license.
• Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, or related surgical specialty.
• Strong assessment, clinical judgment, and communication skills.
• Experience in an outpatient or procedural setting preferred.

Preferred:

• Prior experience in cardiothoracic pre- and post-operative care.
• Familiarity with EMR systems and multidisciplinary care workflows.
